John Reardon
(R) - Endorsement Statement
 John
Reardon will bring to City Council his management skills and experience
that have made Mobex Communications, Inc., a privately-held wireless
communications company, debt-free and earning sizable profits for
its shareholders. As a City Councilmember, Reardon will make sure
that Alexandria works with the more than 25 other Virginia jurisdictions
seeking more local control over development from the Virginia General
Assembly. Reardon will also work to ensure that elected officials
are more accountable to the citizens who elected them.
Reardon offers clear ideas on how the next City Council should
protect our quality of life. For example, to solve transportation
and traffic issues he will synchronize traffic lights and push for
the use of alternative transit modes, such as historic street cars
or quiet, light rail, like those now used in historic New Orleans,
Boston and San Francisco.
Reardon wants to see an Eisenhower West vision that maximizes
the use of the Van Dorn Metro Station. He will support transit-oriented
developments there that do not increase traffic on Duke Street,
other arterial roads and neighborhood streets.
Reardon supports the creation of an Open Space Fund which will
increase and preserve our city's precious open space. He also supports
creating a long-range plan and vision for Alexandria that includes
his campaign goal of holding down property taxes so that Alexandrians
can afford to continue to live in their own homes.
