Mayoral Candidates Interview Questions

Each candidate for Mayor met with the ASG Board of Directors in March 2003 and was asked the following questions as part of the mayoral endorsement process:

1. a. If you are elected Mayor, what will your top 3 priorities be, in order of importance?

    b. Which of these three priorities will you accomplish during your first term in office and how will you accomplish this priority?

2. What do you see as the roles of the elected officials, the city manager, and the city staff members and how should the individuals who fill these roles interact with each other?

3. What is your definition of "quality of life" and what steps would you take to increase it?

4. As Mayor, how would you ensure that all stakeholders (i.e., citizens and business owners) are informed and included from the beginning in the decision-making process, such as approval of a new health care facility, that would have a profound impact on one or more residential neighborhoods?

5. What role do you see Alexandria taking, if any, in statewide efforts to empower localities to exert more control over land use decisions?

6. What do you see as the role of civic associations in our community?
