WHY VOTE IN THE MAY 6, 2003 GENERAL ELECTION

The May 6, 2003 election for Mayor and City Council will be a "changing of the guard" election for Alexandria because of these transitions:

--only three of the six current City Council members are seeking reelection to City Council;
--the Mayor and another City Councilmember are retiring; and
--the remaining two current City Councilmembers are vying for the office of Mayor.

Thus, there will be a new Mayor and at least 3 new members of City Council.

This election allows voters to continue the status quo of approving development projects that degrade our neighborhoods and quality of life. Or, voters can elect leaders who will make long-range planning and protecting neighborhoods a priority. Voters can choose leaders who are committed to changing how decisions are made as well as making decisions that will bring many positive benefits to our community.
